Sodium Ferric Gluconate Complex Information

Before receiving sodium ferric gluconate injection,
- tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to sodium ferric gluconate injection; any other iron injections such as ferric carboxymaltose (Injectafer), ferumoxytol (Feraheme), iron dextran (Dexferrum, Infed, Proferdex), or iron sucrose (Venofer); any other medications; benzyl alcohol; or any of the ingredients in sodium ferric gluconate injection. Ask your pharmacist for a list of the ingredients.
- tell your doctor and pharmacist what other prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take. Be sure to mention angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors such as benazepril (Lotensin), captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), fosinopril, lisinopril (Prinivil, Zestril), moexipril (Univasc), perindopril (Aceon), quinapril (Accupril), ramipril (Altace), and trandolapril (Mavik); and iron supplements that are taken by mouth. Your doctor may need to change the doses of your medications or monitor you carefully for side effects.

- tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while receiving sodium ferric gluconate injection, call your doctor.

- diarrhea
- loss of appetite
- stomach pain
- leg cramps
- swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
- headache
- extreme tiredness
- fever
- numbness or tingling
- soreness, redness, or burning at the injection site
